Wanagiri Hidden Hill, the perfect Instagram spot in Bali

Wanigiri Circle

Bali, the island of the Gods, is full of stunning Instagramable spots. In the north of the Island is one of the most popular selfie spots, Wanagiri Hidden Hill. The road is lined on one side with restaurants and on the other are about 6 different selfie spots with picturesque views over twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan.

Wanagiri Hidden Hill overlooks the brilliant blue of Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan far below. The area is surrounded by trees and lush greenery and these spots give you an amazing view over the water and it is the perfect backdrop to your photos.

Each selfie spot along Wanagiri Hidden Hill offers different options. You can pose on swings, with wings, on the bow of a boat, on a bicycle, sitting in a human-sized bird’s nest, in wicker hearts and rounds, in a giant wicker egg and much more.

What to Expect at Wanagiri Hidden Hill

It is worth having a quick drive along to see what is on offer before picking the one or ones you like best. Remember you don’t have to have your photo taken on every piece, just chose the ones you want. There are a few lookout points along the road where you can pose for free, but most of the selfie spots you will have to pay to get into. (see below).

The entry fee covers the use of the different platforms, swings etc and also the staff who monitor how long people are taking and who is next in on each station.

Yes, unless you get there early, most of the selfie spots have queues, and if you are unlucky enough to arrive just as a bus full of other tourists do, you might be in for a bit of a wait.

The staff are also there to help you on and off and, if you are on your own, they will take photos for you.

don’t forget to have fun when you are taking your photos at Wanagiri Hidden Hills

Quick Tip: Have fun with your shots, don’t just sit in the same position every time; stand up, lie down, turn your back, look at the camera or away. You can also smile!

What to wear for your Bali Instagram shots

Now, this really does depend on what kind of look you are going for. Long floaty dresses do seem to be de rigeur, but you can change it up and wear what you are comfortable in. I would, however, suggest that clothing that is too restrictive as you may have to get on and off the different stations.

If you want to have different shots wearing a variety of clothing, there are changing rooms and you can even rent Instagram suitable clothing from some of the spots

Be clever with your clothing. I wore things that I could layer; a dress over a vest top and different trousers – leggings and lace ones – that I could quickly pull on and off.

Where is Wanagiri Hidden Hill

Wanagiri Hidden Hill is to the north of Bali on the road between Denpasar and Singaraja.

The drive from Denpasar takes you past the village of Bedugul and Ulun Danu Beratan, the iconic temples which look as if they are floating on lake Beratan. Also on your route is Handara Gate, beautiful gates outside the Handara Gate golf course which is another great Instagramable place.

If you are travelling by scooter, you have a hill to climb, past the monkeys who are always on the lookout for some food but be careful they can get a bit aggressive, so it is better to keep your distance.

Best Time to Visit Wanagiri Hidden Hill

The best months to visit Bali are from April to October, which tends to be drier. As long as it is not raining or misty, Wanagiri Hidden Hill is perfect at any time. A sunny day with clear skies is best, but a bit of cloud doesn’t affect it too much. The weather can change quite quickly and the clouds can clear.

As it is on a hill, it can be cooler than down on the beach or lower in the valleys and the weather can be quite different. I made the mistake once of leaving the glorious sunny weather in Lovina and by the time I got to Wanagiri it was drizzly and quite cold, not ideal when you are in t-shirt and shorts!

The earlier you can get there the better. Early because there will be fewer people and the light is better, the “golden hour” either just after sunrise or later just before sunset.

Wanagiri Hidden Hill Entrance Fees

Each of the different selfie spots that have platforms and swings charges an entrance fee to use their facilities, but they start at around 100,000 IDR.

Wanagiri Hidden Hill Opening Hours

Most of the Instagram spots on Wanagiri Hidden Hill are open for the public from 8 am to 6 pm and seven days a week.
