After a long drive from Entebbe with stops to sample the Ugandan street food and see the tea plantations, we arrived at the luxury resort of Tabebuia Safari Resort, a haven of tranquillity.

Situated on the calm shores of Lake Nyabikere just outside Fort Portal, Tabebuia Safari Resort offers a unique blend of wellness, safari, nature, chic cottages and amazing food – all woven into one experience.

Unforgettable wildlife memories start long before you step into the forest. At Tabebuia Resort, you enter a world where lush Ugandan landscape meets refined comfort, a place perfectly positioned for relaxed luxury near Kibale National Park or Sempaya National Park.
A special thank you to the Joseph and the team at Valiant Safaris for hosting me during my trip in Uganda. However, all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Below is a detailed review of what to expect, why Tabebuia Safari Resort is a great choice near Kibale, and what makes this property stand out.
Location & Natural Setting

Tabebuia Safari Resort is set in Western Uganda, overlooking the peaceful waters of Lake Nyabikere near Fort Portal – a gateway to lush landscapes, crater lakes, and biodiversity.
This region is known for its proximity to Kibale National Park, one of Africa’s best destinations for chimpanzee trekking. There are also many scenic crater lake systems dotted across the landscape – in fact, Lake Nyabikere is one of them. These are perfect for gentle walks and birdwatching.
You are also close to other nearby natural attractions: Queen Elizabeth National Park, the stunning snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, Semuliki National Park and botanical gardens.
The lodge itself is placed to offer sweeping views across the lake and hills — a peaceful contrast to the forest adrenaline of chimp tracking.
Accommodation & Comfort
Tabebuia Safari Resort delivers lakeside comfort with a boutique sensibility:
Room Types
- Lakeside Lullaby Suites: Spacious suites with uninterrupted lake views — ideal for couples or honeymooners.
- Whispering Lake Villas: Private villas designed for serenity and privacy with elegant furnishings.
- Lakeside Breeze Residences: Larger residences suited for families or groups, with panoramic lake vistas.

All rooms emphasise natural materials, contemporary design and large private balconies or terraces for watching the misty sunrises or stunning sunset over the water.

I stayed in “Whydah“, one of the Whispering Lake Villas. The room has a sumptuous superking-sized bed, soft white linen, and an elegant canopy. There is a range of seating: a large sofa with a beautiful view looking out over the lake, a round table and chairs, which were perfect for me to work at, or you can sit on the balcony to take in the view.

Tiled in grey, the large shower in the private bathroom was very welcome with fluffy white towels and a cosy dressing gown to wrap up in afterwards.
Dining: Farm-to-Table Comfort
Dining at Tabebuia leans into a farm-to-table ethos, blending local Ugandan flavours with international cuisine.

You have the choice of sitting inside, where you can watch the chefs prepare your gourmet meals or outside on the covered verandah overlooking the pool. Our meals were taken outside with relaxing views of Lake Nyabikere.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are thoughtfully prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Options include lakeside meals, firepit dining and private experiences beside the pool or tea house. The culinary pace matches the lodge’s calm, relaxed, and refined rather than rushed.

We enjoyed a freshly cooked breakfast with a choice of eggs, sausages, bacon, accompanied by mushrooms, beans and even some fried potatoes. Afterwards, fresh croissants and doughnuts were served with delicious Ugandan coffee.

A starter of fresh salad or soup for lunch was followed by vegetable curry, fried chicken or steak. A platter of tropical fruits rounded off our light but filling meal.

Dinner was candlelit, with the nightly frog chorus echoing around Lake Nyabikere. Our meal was a mix of traditional Ugandan stew and Mexican fajitas for me, the vegetarian.

Wellness & Spa
Wellness is a core part of the Tabebuia Spa & Safari Resort experience – ideal for travellers who enjoy balancing adventure with intentional rest and spa services.
Expect:
- A menu of holistic spa treatments (massages, body therapies, relaxation treatments).
- Expert therapists
- Spaces designed for mindful movement and calm.
- A philosophy centred on restoration rather than performance retreats.
Couple this with quiet lakeside moments, and you have a wellness retreat that’s also fit for safari travellers.
Sadly, I did not have time to experience the spa or the treatments, but I will definitely indulge next time I visit Tabebuia.
Chimp Trekking & Safari Connections

One of Tabebuia’s biggest draws is its proximity to Kibale Forest National Park — one of the best places on the continent to track chimpanzees.
- Kibale hosts high primate diversity and is especially known for guided chimpanzee trekking expeditions.
- The lodge can arrange guided treks and nature excursions in partnership with trusted local guides.
- Other immersive nature experiences include birdwatching, crater lake walks, guided nature hikes and optionally coordinating game drives in nearby parks like Queen Elizabeth National Park.
This makes Tabebuia a perfect base for safaris plus wellness, rather than just one or the other.
Facilities & Experiences

Tabebuia’s facilities support both relaxation and exploration:
- Infinity pool with panoramic views — perfect for post-trek cooling (highly praised in guest reviews).
- Tea house & fire pit areas with scenic lake vistas.
- Guided excursions into forest trails, crater lakes and local nature areas.
- Day guests welcome – though experiences must be pre-booked.
- Free private parking – there is ample space for vehicles if you are self-driving.
Service & Hospitality
From arrival to leaving, I was very impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and everything was done with a smile.

The front desk staff were helpful, and even when I wandered in after dinner to look around at the reception area with comfy sofas, interesting books to peruse and artworks, there was always someone there to answer my questions.

The rooms were very clean and oh, so comfortable, and I found the free wifi to be good despite being in a more rural area.
Who is Tabebuia Best For?
A stay at Tabebuia is great for:
- Couples seeking a romantic escape surrounded by natural beauty
- Primate enthusiasts and wildlife lovers
- Safari travellers who appreciate luxury and calm
- Over-40 travellers prioritising comfort and experiences
- Wellness-oriented stays with light adventure
Not ideal for:
- Budget backpackers
- Those seeking full-on safari lodges with heavy wildlife drives every day
Pros & Cons

Pros
- Stunning panoramic lake views and boutique lakeside accommodations.
- Excellent service and calm, refined atmosphere.
- Great base for chimp trekking and nature excursions.
- Spa and wellness offerings add depth to a safari itinerary.
- Just over an hour’s drive from Kasese Airport if you take an internal flight.
Cons
- Remote for international arrivals — expect a long drive or flight in from Entebbe.
- Wi-Fi can be patchy, but I found it fine.
- Luxury, not ultra-luxury — great comfort, not big-budget price tags.
Pricing & Value
Tabebuia positions itself in the upper mid-range to luxury boutique lodge category. With elevated facilities, spa integration and a primate safari focus, most guests find it offers very good value compared to city hotels or basic lodges.
