Have you ever read a blog and thought “what does that mean?“, I know I have. If you are like me, it is off to Google to determine what the word or phrase means. However, sometimes I just carry on with a vague idea gleaned from the context.
Travel, in particular, throws up weird and wonderful words. I have put together this travel glossary to hopefully cover some of the more unusual words used throughout my posts and across the internet.

Dravidian culture – refers to the traditions, languages, and peoples of South Asia who speak one of the many Dravidian languages, Mainly found in southern India and Sri Lanka, with a significant amount of global speakers who are originally from South Asia
Gopuram is a monumental, often ornate, entrance tower found at the entrance of Hindu temples, particularly in South Indian architecture, serving as a gateway to the sacred complex

Sri Lanka has thrown up quite a few words, many of them I had to look up when I was visiting.
Stupa – In Buddhism, a stupa is a mound-like or hemispherical structure used as a place of meditation and veneration. The sutpa symbolises the Buddha’s mind and the path to enlightenment and often containing relics of monks. You should walk round them in a clock-wise direction to show respect.
Moonstone – Decorated semicircular stone slabs which have been placed at the thresholds to Buddhist stupas and their shrine entrances since the early centuries AD.
